Jakarta, 19 July, 2019 – The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), on cooperation with the Ministry of Industry of Republic of Indonesia organized a three-day EIP training programme aimed to provide knowledge and capacity building for developing and implementing Eco-Industrial Parks (EIP) in Indonesia. Undertaken as part of the Global Eco-Industrial Parks Programme (GEIPP), and the Resource Efficient and Cleaner Production (RECP) programme Indonesia, the training session was conducted by Mr. Frédéric Meylan-International consultant on RECP – Eco-Industrial Parks UNIDO and Mr. Salil Dutt- Chief technical advisor for RECP programme Indonesia. Participants ranged from Ministry of Industry (MOI), Ministry of Environment and Forestry (MOEF), Indonesia Cleaner Production Center (ICPC) and UNIDO office Indonesia.

“How to achieve industrial development on sustainable basis is an essential problem to solve.”, said Directorate General of KPAII - MOI, Mr. Ignasius Warsito in opening remarks. With consensus on the statement, Mr. Adi Wardojo, Head of centre of standardization – MOEF remarked “EIPS development is a strategic move for Indonesia as it is in sync with the Government plan 2019-2024... This workshop could serve as the chance to identify opportunitites and challeneges in Indonesia regarding Eco-Industrial Park, such as regulatory environment”. Mr. Esam Alqararah, Unido representative to Indonesia emphasized the importance of EIP in achieving Industry 4.0.

The training was aimed to create common understanding of EIP, by building upon the International framework (UNIDO, WBG, GIZ, 2017) as well as knowledge on key sesources and tools available at UNIDO to support the development and implementation of EIP in Indonesia. The two-day training was enriched with smooth flow of information on lessons learnt from international practices and diverse discussions from participants. Field visit to Cikande Industrial Park provided a valuable opportuniy for the participants to apply the knowledge learnt for real use.
