National Series of Workshop on Green Industry Standard (GIS) and Resource Efficient and Cleaner Production (RECP) as Business Opportunity for Palm Oil Factories

The Indonesia RECP Programme jointly with the Ministry of Industry (MoI) and Centre for Assessment and Development of Green Industry and Environment (CADGIE) organized the third national series of awareness and introductory workshop on GIS and RECP as business opportunity for palm oil factories on 23 February 2017 in Medan, North Sumatra. The same activities had been held in Bekasi, West Java and Surabaya, East Java.

Head of CADGIE, Mr. Lintong Sopandi Hutahaean reminded that business nowadays should be concerns on sustainability issues for their own competitive advantages. In his contribution UNIDO Chief Technical Advisor, Mr. Rene Van Berkel elaborated on the application of RECP in palm oil sector. He also shared his international experience highlighting that RECP presents a business opportunity. In this occasion, palm oil business representatives, Mr. Ishman Sibuea from PT. Perkebunan Nusantara II shared RECP challenges and its implementation in palm oil factory, unique opportunities, and benefits they have got as resulted of management commitment entirely.

In the afternoon session, UNIDO/Indonesia RECP Programme Green Industry Advisor, Mr. Harris Fadillah shared some points on Green Industry Certification process, and also gave some tips/views to achieve Green Industry Certificate for Industry. He highlighted that enthusiasm of entire team for efficiency and appropriate knowledge for improvement techniques are important as a starting points.  Mr. Bambang Heru from University of Indonesia complemented by giving detail explanation of GIS for palm oil industries.  He also provided some examples of GIS for palm oil sector and informed the progress of GIS for palm oil sector and other sectors were soon to be finalized by MoI.

This workshop was organized within the framework of the Indonesian RECP programme, funded by the government of Switzerland, implemented by UNIDO in cooperation with the Ministry of Environment and Forestry and the Ministry of Industry.
